The Library |

|
In India it is
one of the leading library for
research and references with a
very good collection of books,
journals, government
publications for social science
research. Over the years the
Institute has built up a rich
collection of social science
literature and related material.
On an average it adds to its
stacks about 1500 volumes a
year.
The library's present collection
is about 56,500 volumes. It
subscribes around 190 Indian and
Foreign Journals. |

So as to ensure
the right type of additions to
its collections, and add to the
efficiency of its services, the
library's functioning is closely
monitored by Library Committee
of about six months duration
each, with the Librarian as
member‑secretary. The faculty
members as both chairpersons and
members, and Ph.D. scholars as
members serve on them on
rotation.
The library is widely used by
students, research scholars,
teaching scholars from various
social science disciplines,
Government officials,
professionals such as
journalists and consultants, and
even lay persons, from various
parts of Tamil Nadu, the rest of
the country, and abroad.

Membership
Borrowing privileges are limited to
regular members of the library
comprising of two categories.
1. Internal membership
2. External membership
A member of the public may use the
library for consultation and reference.
Such visitors are requested to bring an
official letter from their librarian or
head of the organisation.

Services / Facilities offered
The MIDS library is
primarily intended to be a research
library. But members of the public may
also make use of the library materials.
Photo copiers and microfilm readers are
available.

Working Hours
Week days 09.45 -
17.30 hrs
The counter facility will be available
from 10 am to 17.20 pm. The library
remains closed on all Saturdays and
Sundays and Public Holidays.

Collections
Books: The
Library has a very good collection of
books covering Anthorpology, development
studies, economics, Government
Publications, sociology, demography,
statistics, history, and political
science.
Journals: The Institute's library
is receiving around 190 Indian and
foreign journals. These are received
either through subscription or on a
complimentary basis. The list of current
year journal subscribed is given below. |
