The Malcolm Adiseshiah award for distinguished contributions to Development Studies carries a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation. The award is given to a mid career scholar who has made outstanding contributions to the field. Based on nominations by distinguished experts, an independent jury recommends the award, which is instituted by the Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust. The following academicians have received the awards so far. The awardee delivers the Malcolm Adiseshiah Memorial Lecture.
Dr. Amita Baviskar, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Delhi, currently Visiting Associate Professor, Cultural & Social Anthropology, Stanford University has been selected as Malcolm Adiseshiah Awardee for 2005 by the Jury consisting of Prof.Suma Chitnis, Mumbai, Prof.Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, New Delhi & Prof.Mirinal Miri, Vice Chancellor, North Eastern University, Shillong. The awardee will give the Malcolm Adiseshiah Memorial Lecture in November, 2005.
Dipankar Gupta, Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi was the recipient of the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for Distinguished Contributions to Development Studies in 2004. He delivered a lecture on Whither the Indian Village? Culture and Agriculture in ?Rural? India, during 22nd November 2004.
